Dec 27, 2024
Hello, lovely wedding enthusiasts! Dani C here — your go-to wedding course educator, eager attendee, and lifelong wedding fanatic. After years of watching trends evolve (and sometimes repeat themselves), I’m ready to give you my insider scoop on what’s going to be big in 2025. Whether you're planning your own big day or just love seeing the latest innovations, these predictions are sure to spark some inspiration. Grab your notebooks and let’s dive into the future of weddings! 🌟
1) Drapery
When I first saw this trend online, I worried it was something only luxury brides could afford. How could those on a budget manage such lavish drapery? But, like most trends, I quickly realized it can be adapted for different budgets. I've already seen elegant scarves, upgraded table runners, and bouquet ribbons used in creative ways. So, even if full wall drapery doesn’t make it to weddings in 2025, expect to see its influence in whimsical details like wedding arches, barn rafters, or even on the bride herself. With the rise of film photography, these dreamy fabrics make for the perfect shot.
2) Minimalist Hair (think Hailey Bieber- slick low buns)
Ever since Haley Bieber's wedding in 2018 and the rise of the "it girl aesthetic" the slicked back bun and glowey makeup look has been in. The difference is coming now with brides more loosely applying this manicured hair to different styles. So whether they opt for the full Hailey Bieber cleanly styled low bun, expect the influence to infiltrate half up, ponytail and even hair fully down. Women are loving a clean, young face and polished "do," even if the hair isn't "done up."
3) Butter Yellow Accent Color:
With the Spring Aesthetic now in vogue (fall was our previous trend in case you were wondering), butter yellow is having a moment. Lighter hues, glowier, glossier tones, brides are opting for flowers and bridal parties to channel a slightly more easter-esque inspiration. Whether you are having a "spring wedding" or not, we are seeing spring tones, in full effect year round.
4) Archless Ceremony Backdrops/ Grounded Floral Rounds
We've seen Gazebos, Pergolas, traditional arches, and of course the rise of the triangle backdrop. Now we're seeing "grounded florals" and the non wedding backdrop. Either to highlight nature, accentuate the isle, or just rebel against tradition, I'm loving this creative rethinking of the "alter" area. Wherever you stand as a couple, is obviously the front, so why waste money on a big backdrop? Especially if you would prefer for your guests to enjoy the view.
5) Cross Backdrops (for religious couples)
Rethinking a backdrop is causing some couples to opt for a strong religious symbol in lieu of an arch or covering. Of course, Jewish couples will continue to imagine beautiful Chuppah's to stand under, but Christian couples are returning their strongest symbol. It's a decisive trend, some people love it and some, not so much. What do you think?
6) Dome Cakes/ Non Traditional Shapes
Millie Bobbie Brown broke the internet this year with her single tier Italian Wedding Cake (1st photo), and it should be given a bit of credit for a new trend. We are seeing all kinds of wedding cake alterations, from dome shapes, single tier, and even "slab" cakes. Easier to transport (in some cases), beautiful and quirky. Reimagine your cake for 2025, the sky is the limit. Or should I say the opposite? We're coming down from sky high towers, the table is the limit.
7) Film Photography
Where film photography used to be a luxury, modern couples are finding ways to make it the main event. From disposable cameras on the table to hybrid photographers, couples are loving the dreaminess and timelessness of film. In some cases, it's being selected over a wedding videographer. And in other cases, even the wedding video is incorporating film.
8) The Pre- Ceremony Cocktail
Listen, this may not seem like a big deal but I remember days, not so long ago, when we as guests arrived in sweltering heat, sat in bright sun and smiled through long ceremonies, and we did it all while we were stone cold sober. To indulge or begin celebrating before that ink was dry on the marriage certificate seemed to us then, almost sacrilegious. Then, COVID came and the rules seemed to loosen, perhaps because many of us were throwing small family gatherings where a pre-ceremony glass of champagne or wine seemed a small concession. We were (afterall) only breaking into the Costco supplies a bit early. Now, five years later, there is almost an expectation that guests have non alcoholic and alcoholic choices served to them as they arrive. So whether you have a festive punch, or you want to keep the lemonade bowls sans alcohol until you get some food in your guests, the choice is now yours. No judgement.
9) Perpetual Spring
There was summer wedding trends, then fall, and now, it's time for perpetual spring. Whether you are getting married in May, June, October, or November, we are seeing Spring influences everywhere as a trend more than an indication of the actual month. "Florals? In Spring? Groundbreaking..." Before you come for me, I have to point out that this wasn't always the case. In my area especially March and April dates are usually not only available, but offered at a discount for desperate venues trying to slot in couples in the rainy months. So for couples to not only allow for Spring aesthetic, but strive for it, is a shift. So whether you have your minimalist decor, your pastel color scheme, your whimsical butter yellow single tier sheet cake, or your pops of reds and blues in your colorful floral bouquets, it doesn't matter what season I'm in, I'm seeing spring.
10) Fancier Fare/ the Rise of Family Style Meals
It seems many couples are tiring of taco trucks and pull up pizza makers. There seems to be a shift to fancier wedding fare. Many caterers who are serving outside may encourage you to choose family style versus a plated meal, to keep food hot and served quickly. In any case, it seems foodies are taking the reins and encouraging top tier food to return to the forefront of weddings. Couples on tight budgets shouldn't despair. Whether you opt for scallops or barbecue, tacos, or foie gras, choose food you love and love to share with family. Even if it isn't considered fancy, having food that speaks to your travels, your heritage, or even your family traditions can be a special touch if and when resources allow.
